$50,000 match opportunity for new and returning donors

March 20, 2023Making Disciples for Life. Through well-coordinated domestic and international efforts, the LCMS proclaims the Gospel while showing the love of Christ every step of the way. Will you walk with us?

In response to the life-giving Gospel message about Jesus, a faithful contributor will match $50,000 on specific gifts to the Global Mission Fund. First-time contributors who do not have a record of giving to the LCMS, as well as anyone who has not provided a gift to the LCMS within the past 36-months, will have their donation matched dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000.

Global Mission resources bolster work that proclaims Jesus in Word (Witness) and deed (Mercy) together, both internationally and within the borders of the United States. Your contribution, in whatever amount the Lord allows, will be put to work prudently and effectively toward these ministries and missionaries. Join us in sharing Jesus with the entire world in Word and deed today.

To have your Global Mission Fund gift matched, please make your check payable to “The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.” On the memo line, or in an included note, write: “Global Mission Fund” or “Account TR9201.” You can also contribute by clicking the “Give now” button below. New and returning contributors will have their donation matched until the full $50,000 has been claimed.

2023-24 Global Seminary Initiative: International Student Scholarships

 Gifts matched up to $175,000

March 20, 2023 — Once again, a friend of the Global Seminary Initiative (GSI) is offering to match donations designated for GSI International Student Scholarships, up to a maximum of $175,000. These scholarships permit qualified candidates from our 35-plus partner churches to enroll at one of our two world-class seminaries to earn advanced degrees.

From there, those students return to their home countries able to serve as seminary professors, pastoral and mission leaders, and partner church presidents. GSI is a partnership between Concordia Seminary in St. Louis; Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind.; and The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

To support this effort and have your gift matched, please make your check payable to “The Lutheran—Church Missouri Synod.” On the memo line, or in an included note, write: “GSI International Student Scholarships” or “Account A20178-23078.” You can also contribute by clicking the “Give now” button below.

Contributions given through the LCMS, and any matching dollars from this commitment, will be split equally between our two seminaries. The seminaries themselves select qualifying students and are responsible for awarding GSI assistance coming from the LCMS.

2023–2026 National Offering

May 25, 2023 — The $50,000 maximum for this special, momentum-building gift match has been reached. Soli Deo Gloria! LCMS leadership thanks everyone who has so graciously responded to this opportunity thus far, an effort to reach individuals from non-English speaking cultures every day by sharing the life-giving Gospel message across cultural and language lines through the translation of carefully selected Lutheran outreach resources into languages other than English.

Connected to the theme of the convention, this triennium’s National Offering — “We Preach Christ Crucified for All People” — will focus on translating introductory Christian resources into as many as five major languages. Congregations, schools, and other groups will be able to utilize these evangelism, educational, and catechetical resources — resources YOU have made possible — to help non-English speakers clearly hear and read the Good News.

(Note: The LCMS does not intend to duplicate, replace, or compete with the vital translation work of other Lutheran agencies such as Lutheran Heritage Foundation, Lutheran Bible Translators, or Concordia Publishing House.)

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 12.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors (compared to a not-more-than ceiling of 10.5 percent the previous fiscal year). Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
